Are school bus seats anything like the ones in the Subs for the same years?

it has been discussed before and if I remember correctly, they are definitely different. The frames have flange type mounts and the cushions are thinner and different radiuses. Pictures would help.

I'll get a look pretty soon. It's about an hour and a half from me. Its a '53 GMC school bus, so just hoping. There is one drawback, the owner took the seats out, and they have been outside for about 5 yrs., unfortunately.
Anything special about this era GMC school bus? I think he has another one also, that was made into a camper bus at some point. I'm going to take a closer look at both of them.

Take pictures of each seat cushion and frame. Cheok the engine size, it may be the elusive 302. It will be stamped engine size first on the machined boss next to the distributer. It will start with eiter 248, 270 or 302. Check with the big bolt guys for additional input.

Most likely the bus was built by a coach builder who sourced the cowl and chassis from GMC and the seats from someone else. Even if they sourced the seats from the same supplier who built the Suburban seats I highly doubt they would be the same seats.

But I am interested in knowing what you find out.

Here's the seats in my '59 bus, body by Carpenter. Probably different than what you will find.

School bus seats not the same . not even close. One side of bus seats bolt to the wall and the other side bolts to the floor. Prolly could be made to work but would not be stock looking. I had this thought while doing my sub until I looked at bus seats and realized it wouldn't look right.

Also there are lefts and rights to complicate things more

How many 302's and 270's should I buy if available at a low price. I already bout one 302 and one 270, and there's more.

I have probably have cut up over 100 old school buses in the past for scrap. I never seen any seats that are close the original suburban seats. shape and contours are all together different, I have own chevy suburbans for many years and know when I see something that is close. But those seats can be made to fit, as it will be about close will be able to get without spending a lot of money,as those seats are made of metal ,and time can be spent to make something nice and close with out spending a fortunate. I a few weeks we will crushing out a old salvage yard here and in they got an 1956 GMC full size bus, I will be glad to remove a couple seats and set a side for someone who would like to try to make it work for their suburbans.

I finally got a look at the bus seats, and you're right, not even close.
So, when I finally do acquire that project I'm looking for, I'm sure I'll be hunting up seats for it. There aren't many that I've come across that have all the seats, heck, lucky if they have the front ones.
