The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Frame Swap

Hey all. It's been awhile since I've been on. I'm considering swapping the frame on my '65 short bed stepside with something newer, with disc brakes, newer suspension, etc. Can anyone tell me the newest model truck frame I'd be able to switch over to with the minimal amount of alterations? I'm looking for something I can drop, not quite slam... but pretty low. Thanks in advance...

you are better off just swapping the new components into your existing frame

I've got some pretty significant rust damage on the frame behind both front wheels... otherwise I'd agree. I've already lowered it and it essentially has new suspension front to back so I at a minimum I'd be switching it out with another 64-66 frame anyway so I thought a newer frame might be the way to go since I'll be going to the hassle anyway.

you will have to make mounts as the cab will have to sit higher, because the box has to set higher. you will have to shorten a frame in order to have the wheels sit in proper perspective. if not you can spot it a mile away and will .always give the authorities to opportunity to run your vin# and see if it matches the one on the frame. even putting another frame from the same year would be much simpler
