Can anyone confirm if that is the case.

On anything basically pickup-sized, the SM 420 4 speed was the floor-shift model.

Only one three-speed on the column and one 4-speed on the floor was available as GM factory equipment 47-53. I am never sure what to call it so I call it both. It was only available on the floor when the truck was first released in late 1947. There are several details that are different on this release than from other years. Even the the gauges and speedometer were in a different housing. | | |
