I hope to somehow get to the bottom of this, so I can move on - - My truck is 12 volts. All of the really cool (old) fog lights - like Guide - are of the 6 volt varity.

How can I blend the two together to make them work?

Does this style of foglight work for you?

Yea, i'd just switch the bulbs to 12v bulbs.. if they're old school lamps, the globes are likely to be glass, so you won't have to worry about the brighter, hotter bulbs melting any plastic.

Thanks Niagara - The link was cool and those are nice fog lights from Kanter but, I am hopeing for some 1949 period correct "Guide" fog lights - or something with more of an old school look. smile

Thanks mikes 63-k10 - What kind of resisters would you recommend?

Thanks Fumblin46 - Do I have to do any modifications to the 6 volt bulb sockets to allow them to seat the 12 volt bulbs?

Hi Mike (63-k10)
P.S.- I really like your truck smile You've got quite a little gem there - she looks good! Did you & your dad do the 12 volt conversion yourselfs?

I've just recently bought a Fulton sunvisor just like yours too! Are they very hard to put on??

Tom,

The fog lights you are searching for probably take a sealed beam lamp instead of a small replaceable bulb. I have enclosed a link with lots of lights, maybe you'll hit pay dirt.

I have vintage Allstate fog lamps on my truck that use sealed beam bulbs. I got my 12 volt ones from the link below. They have guides that allow you to check the dimensions and wiring so you are sure you get the right fit.

Hi 49 geezer!
Were your vintage Allstate fog lamps 6 or 12 volts?

Is your truck 6 or 12 volts?

You might just try to run them through a small DC step down transformer too. It would be similar to the resistor idea, but a slightly different approach.

If it ain't broke, take it apart and figure out why!

I don't think you can step DC voltage down with a transformer. Alternating current has to be in the equation somewhere for this to work.

Sorry, just got back online. My lights were 6 volt originally. Cross-referenced the style on the Atlanta site and got the 12v bulbs. Amber and a perfect fit. Sold the 6v ones on ebay.

Hi 49 geezer smile

So, if I understand what your saying, you switched out just the amber bulbs from 6 to 12 volt - and the 12 volt bulbs fit in the 6 volt chrome housing?

Yep! The 6 volt sealed bulbs fit perfectly in the housings. Did you try looking on the Atlanta Bulb site to see if you can match up your bulbs with 12 v ones? I can post the part numbers of the 12v ones I got if you need me to.

Just received 12v amber bulbs from Chevy's of the 40's today to replace my 6v bulbs.

The bulb received is a GE 4412A Fog ROHS and fits perfectly.

Hi Down2sea & 49 geezer!
How are you guys doing? Thank you VERY MUCH for replying to my post & for trying to help me out! I appreciate it very much - THANK YOU! smile

49 geezer - I did go on the Atlanta light site ealier in the post when you first told me about them (sorry! I should have posted to you that I went on there). It's a good site & I am going to add them to my favorites. Thanks for the Phillips part # too! I'll keep it for a reference later (I still check ebay all the time for fog lights & there's just nothing out there yet).

Thanks Don (Down2sea) also for your part #GE 4412A - I will also keep them as well for a reference smile Now if I can just find some nice housings.....? Tom (49 Panel)

Hi 49 geezer smile

I just went to the Atlanta Light website & on the site they have a quick search box. I pasted in your description (Phillips 4415A) and the message says no items found?

Hi Down2sea smile

The same thing as above just happened to me with your site!?

I went to Chevys of the 40's and type in your description (GE 4412A) and I also typed in (GE 4412A Fog ROHS) and that website says there is no product match found?

Here's your link. Once there, type 4415a in the search box. It'll take you to the bulb page.
