For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 | I hope to somehow get to the bottom of this, so I can move on - - My truck is 12 volts. All of the really cool (old) fog lights - like Guide - are of the 6 volt varity.
How can I blend the two together to make them work? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 179 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2002 Posts: 179 | Does this style of foglight work for you? Kanter Auto Products Greg

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

Thanks mikes 63-k10 - What kind of resisters would you recommend? Thanks Fumblin46 - Do I have to do any modifications to the 6 volt bulb sockets to allow them to seat the 12 volt bulbs? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 | Hi Mike (63-k10) P.S.- I really like your truck You've got quite a little gem there - she looks good! Did you & your dad do the 12 volt conversion yourselfs? I've just recently bought a Fulton sunvisor just like yours too! Are they very hard to put on?? I have enclosed a link with lots of lights, maybe you'll hit pay dirt. http://www.taillightking.com/fog_Driving_lights.htm Stuart | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 | I have vintage Allstate fog lamps on my truck that use sealed beam bulbs. I got my 12 volt ones from the link below. They have guides that allow you to check the dimensions and wiring so you are sure you get the right fit. http://www.atlantalightbulbs.com/index.html | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 | THANKS ATOMARC!! Is your truck 6 or 12 volts? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 184 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 184 | You might just try to run them through a small DC step down transformer too. It would be similar to the resistor idea, but a slightly different approach. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | I don't think you can step DC voltage down with a transformer. Alternating current has to be in the equation somewhere for this to work.

My lights were 6 volt originally. Cross-referenced the style on the Atlanta site and got the 12v bulbs. Amber and a perfect fit. Sold the 6v ones on ebay. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 200 | Hi 49 geezer So, if I understand what your saying, you switched out just the amber bulbs from 6 to 12 volt - and the 12 volt bulbs fit in the 6 volt chrome housing? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 | Yep! The 6 volt sealed bulbs fit perfectly in the housings. Did you try looking on the Atlanta Bulb site to see if you can match up your bulbs with 12 v ones? I can post the part numbers of the 12v ones I got if you need me to. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 700 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 700 | Just received 12v amber bulbs from Chevy's of the 40's today to replace my 6v bulbs.
The bulb received is a GE 4412A Fog ROHS and fits perfectly. Don My 1941 in the Stovebolt Gallery My Photo AlbumBut I tried, didn't I? ... At least I did that.
