How do you propose to get the cylinders clean after the hone job? Unless it is scrubbed with a stiff-bristle brush and HOT (virtually boiling) water and lots of strong detergent, then rinsed repeatedly with HOT water, there will be enough honing grit left in the cylinders to wear the rings out in a matter of a few hundred miles. I wore out a set of rings on a 2500-mile trip from California to Tennessee after an in the frame rebuild, and I had cleaned the cylinders with lacquer thinner and terrycloth toweling until no dirt showed at all on the rags. Still not clean enough!
