I might be confused on this thread...it has happened before. The 'stomp' starter not only closes the starter switch, but
mechanically engages the 'overunning clutch'.
No electrical lashup will do this...the shift lever on the starter needs to be depressed by some mechanical means to drive the overunning clutch into the ring gear.
