The starter should disengage when power is removed. This is a solenoid type starter and you have hooked your remote starter switch to the positive post with one clip, and one of the small terminals on the solenoid with the other clip...right.

The button on your remote starter switch isn't sticking on is it?

I have had the starter on a Perkins diesel stick 'mechanically'...which held it in electrically, but this is very rare.

Take another look at where your wires are going.
