Most of the filters (oil/fuel) were dealer accessories, so they had to be installed in places that a dealer could get to cheaply.
No doubt, but I highly doubt they'd choose a mounting place that would cause all their customers engines to catch fire..... That would be alot more serious than a simple callback.
what about those soft oil lines that feed the oil filter running right next to the exhaust manifold & pipe?
Even with all these apparant fire hazards these venerable old trucks have managed to last quite a while
