Any concern with not having the filter before the fuel pump? Any concern with having a glass element filter directly above the exhaust manifold and possible vapor lock?

No concerns with not having a filter before the pump. The pump has a glass bowl and screen in it and is easy to clean. Since I went to a new tank I haven't had to clean it.
I also have no concerns with the filter being mounted above the exhaust manifold. The filter itself seems to be well made and the location is also the same as the manufacturer selected for it's glass bowl fuel filters back in the day.
