I went to the MAD electrical site out of my never ending curiosity. Your post indicates you "step on the starter pedal", but the solenoid kit I saw on the MAD site is for key start starters..solenoid type starters, not stomp type starters, which I assume fits your description.
I obviously have no idea what is going on, but that's par for the old course. What's the scoop!
