Its a more common problem on 46 2nd thru 55 1st than people realize. Its not just the lack of springs, but also the lack of reinforcement at the door pillar. All I was really trying to say was, if you have that crease, make sure after you fix it, to not say the job is done but make sure you have a new spring kit installed on your hinges. I really didn't mean to get into a debate about whats happening. It doesn't matter at all. The two go together. If you don't believe that, you are on your own.

The spring anchors are too shallow and over the years they warble out causing a very likely failure. Broken or just slipped out of the hinge anchor causing a real miserable situation. If you don't have them securely in place, when a 30mph wind or so takes place just right, it makes for a very bad day. If the springs are good, the anchors have really clean and not warbled holes, your chances of surviving such a thing are better. Its a weak spot on our trucks that often gets overlooked. smile
