So much misinformation... since you are guessing I'll skim over the obvious errors:
The parts manual does not need to specific as to A or B, it said BOLT... plus its NOT a print, its a PARTS MANUAL. So strike 1.
They could not produce parts to the limit? ARE YOU SERIOUS? I have already supplied two parts that ARE machined to the spec. In mass production quality. Plus the parts WERE PRODUCED FROM 1943 to 1961. I have them in my hand... I can gauge them if you like... but it'll cost you because you are blowing smoke in face of reality. Strike 2 and 3.
NF-2 and NF-3 tolerances change as bolt diameter change. You did know that right?
1/2-13. 2A 0.5000 0.4985 0.4876
1/2-13. 3A 0.5000 0.5000 0.4891
5/8-18. 2A 0.6250 0.6236 0.6149
5/8-18. 3A 0.6250 0.6250 0.6163

Oh yea, I worked in SubSafe a Nuclear QA... so yeah... they DO make bolts to that tolerance even way back in the 40s.
