There was a lock, off, on, & start(or just lock, off, & on if stomp start) position on the ignition switch-if it was "off" the key could be removed & the "ears" on the lock cylinder could be used to start the vehicle. It would then only go to "lock" if the key was re-inserted. Even a knife or screwdriver could also be used to turn it. I have seen many trucks being used that the key was long lost, just turn the cylinder. Brian
