A battery can,t be tested unless it is charged up. A quick test to see if there is a drain from the alt. take the main wire off the term. & touch it to the term. Watch real carefully & see if there is a small spark. If there is you have a shorted diode. Do the same with a bat cable to check for drains in other parts of the system. These alts. are fun to work on if you like to fix things yourself. Get a book & follow the instructions.
