OK - So, there's lots of postings on this forum about running an alternator... 1 wire, 3 wire, internal regulator, external... etc.
Does anybody know where I can find a step-by-step description of how to install and hook up an alternator for someone with reasonable mechanical skill but limited electrical knowledge?
Instructions that give really clear details, like:
-- If you want a 1 wire alternator, buy Delco Model # xx-xx
-- If you want a 3 wire alternator, buy Delco Model # xy-xy
-- If you want to run an external regulator,
buy Delco regulator # zz and Delco alternator # yx-yx
...and here's how to hook them up --
Run this wire from this terminal on the alternator to this location on the truck, etc.
Anybody seen any clear and complete information like that anywhere?
I have a plain-jane '65 C20 with a stock 292.
Was overcharging, now not charging at all.
BTW, it has an IN-DASH CHARGE METER which is something else none of the posts talks about, and which I can't find in any of the wiring schemes shown there.
Any help is much appreciated.
