There are a couple reasons you are not likely to find the simple step-by-step you are looking for.
First, is that there is some variation in the way things are wired, and simply hook something somewhere assumes everything else is connected a certain way. It might be the case, but often it isn't.
Second is that different bracket sets work best with different alternators, which electrically might be identical.
Chevrolet started installing alternators with external regulators in 1963. I'd expect your truck to have one. If it doesn't someone has changed things, and your first task might be to determine what you really have.
