You might be right about that. I had to have one overhauled a while back from my '85 S10, had a specialist do the work that knows 700R4s inside and out. In addition to the pump, he did replace the valve body and governor. I do know that the early 700s had issues with the governor, I haven't had a problem since the overhaul.
