If it's a 4L60E it's a 4-speed, so you'll have P,R,N,OD,D,2,1. There are no issue with your column only having the 6 total positions, as long as it stays in the gear you put it in. I have 2 vehicles that have transmissions with a different number of gears than the steering column originally had, and they work just fine.
