I wanted to install the kit to uses the "2 acorn nut" style valve cover on my 261 and all I could find were the chrome valve covers. I gave it a light sandblasting (aluminum oxide, I think 80 grit) to provide key for adhesion and then painted. I haven't got it hot yet to see what happens, but haven't thought of a reason that well keyed paint on a surface that was once chomed should be any worse than other paint.
