Just imported a 56 3100 with a 235, it seems to run well but it has had the oil filter disconnected and the line routed around the block to the lifters, I understand this is quite common.

I had a nasty experience about 10 years ago on a 46 Ford where a nearly new oil line to the filter split spraying half the contents of the sump around under the bonnet so i am tempted to leave the filter off. . . .
Looks like you will still have an external line routed in an unconventional manner. Are you worried about it splitting/spraying?
