The 49 trucks are interesting because many changes were made mid-year. So early 49's have many 48 features and later 49's features that carried over to 50 plus unique features of their own. The 3-speed while standard equipment, the 4-speed was a common factory option (318 C & D $50.00) and inexpensive. It also seems they are more common in some regions. I live in Utah but have sourced trucks from neighboring states. Here 4-speeds are much more common due to agrarian use, mountains and four season weather.
