My bad, you're correct, Generator no Alternator. I knew that when I typed it, and did it anyways.
I still think you've probably got something out of whack with the cables or wiring(?) but I'd still have the rest of the charging system checked out.
I would think you could find a shop that can check it pretty easily. You might have to do some searching in the yellow-pages cause those pimple-faced kids in the parts-house won't know what the world you're talking about when you say generator.
Look under automotive electrical repair and I'd imagine you'll find someone in your area that works on generators.
We've got several here and they generally will also test equipment for free.
