Do you ever have trouble starting? Maybe once the ole points start to deteriorate, as they all do over time, it might be nice to have full 12 volts to the points for start-up under this condition. I have a side-pole switch in my shop somewhere. I just haven't taken the time to find it and switch it out. In the meantime, I haven't had any start-up issues without it.
