yes, the 56 starter should have a terminal on the side of it's switch [a smaller one] that's where the wire to the + on the coil goes - it's hot when the switch is engaged - juice to the coil will normally go thru the key sw, then thru the ign resistor to the coil - when you let off the foot start, the only power the coil can get is thru the resistor
