Davey - I had a spot like that in my 81 suburban. I put a voltmeter in that spot, it looked pretty good and I was then able to monitor my battery charging. The clock is a good idea. You could put a oil temp gauge there. Got to summitracing.com and cheack out their gauges to get an idea of what you want.
