might be a ground problem - sounds like you may have some wires on the switch wrong - do you have a wiring diagram?
the dome light should get it's power and ground thru the switch, the dash lights get power only from the switch - the wires to both are gray, w/ the dome light being a lighter gauge - maybe you have the 2 wires switched around?
