On my'61, there were 4 positions. From the left: lock, off, on, start. You could take the key out after you turned the truck on and turn the switch from off through start without it. The key would be needed to lock the ignition again. I never figured out just why they were set up that way, but it was handy not to have to get the key out every time i used the truck.
