The 63 Chevy Truck manual says 3/4"-1". The 80-87 Chevy truck manual says 1 3/8"-1 5/8". In your case you need to try something to see if you can affect the engagement. Something is way off. The "no movement "indicates too small of a free play. The "not shifting" into some gears indicates too much free play. You may have two problems at the same time. Clutch and internal tranny. I assume you tested tranny before install to see that it shifted. BTW what tranny is it?
