As I remember it, it should be 4 U.S. quarts. I usually fill the crankcase one quart short, run the engine to fill the oil filter, then check the level and add oil until it reaches the "full" mark on the dipstick. It's lots simpler to add a little, than to try to remove oil from an overfilled crankcase!
