When the HEIs came out in '74/'75 GM recommended .060. After a year they changed that to .045 where it stayed for the "High Energy" systems. Also, the first ones used an external coil and different cap. The large diameter was to prevent crossfiring between plugs. Be sure to run a new switched 12ga or larger wire from the switch.
