When I put new main bearings in my 216, I shimmed them a little on the snug side. It was fairly tight and I didn't want to wear out the starter. What I did was prime it with a little gas down the carb throat so that it fired right away. I don't know if I would advise that with a new engine. After running it for about half an hour it had loosened up some.
