yes the windshield has to be out to put the trim strip in. I just had my windshield done on my 55.
My windshield needed to be replace so I was able to find a guy who did the windshield and trim moulding and was really reasonable. 230.00, I already had the trim and the rubber moulding.
I have done windshields before but the front glass on any 55 with the trim moulding is a little bit of a pain, and not that easy to do .
