I finally bought the windshield chrome trim for my truck. Found out that it's not the easiest thing to install (unless I'm doing something wrong). Does the windshield have to be out to put it in? Any tips?

I took mine to a windshield installation shop. I would recommend bringing a copy of the factory sealing instructions, especially the part about the sealant going on the exterior base of the pinch weld all the way around the openings before installing the bench assembled glass/seal/stainless trim. If you are there while they do it, you may want to look the other way when they start pounding on the glass to get it to go in.

yes the windshield has to be out to put the trim strip in. I just had my windshield done on my 55.
My windshield needed to be replace so I was able to find a guy who did the windshield and trim moulding and was really reasonable. 230.00, I already had the trim and the rubber moulding.
I have done windshields before but the front glass on any 55 with the trim moulding is a little bit of a pain, and not that easy to do .

The easy way to do this is lay your windshield rubber flat on table & install the stainless, then install the glass into the rubber, then use a piece of rope & lay it in the channel with open end of rope hanging out the bottom somewhere in the middle, for the next step you'll need some extra hands, put the whole(rubber stainless & glass) set up on the cab in place, with a can of windshield cleaner spray around the starting egde. with one person on the inside & one on the outside slowly pull rope so the lip starts rolling over the cab lip. the person on the outside needs to make sure there is enough pressure so it dosen't pop back out. Just keep working at it until the windshield is all in the lip. Be in a good mood when you get started & take your time. Hope this helps. If in doubt spend a few dollars & have a professional install it. Later

DADS pictures show a good layout of how to do it. Just remember to take your time & use lots of cleaner to keep it lubed. Also ue a plastic windshield stick instead of a screwdriver. Don't worry about the corners if there not perfect, when the sun warms the rubber it will settle into place. When I installed mine & moved the truck outside into the sun light & with in a few hours it started settling into place. Again, Hope all this helps.
