I've dug up this old topic and wanted to update you all. I was finally able to start up the old engine this past weekend and I quickly got it to purr like a kitten. Even without exhaust the 230 idles very smoothly and quiet. Needless to say it looks like the carb I got for $20 is going to work great. I just need an exhaust and some tires and she'll be road worthy. Thanks for all the info.
