I have followed your story(progress), but I can't remember what you had corrected on the frame if anything. That would be my first suspicion, a misaligned frame. I had similar trouble when I swapped frames on my '50 3100. I took the easy or lazy way out and slightly enlarged the brake pedal arm pan cut out. I guess doing that would depend on how far off your pedal arms are.
Geez Drew- I'm sorry I missed your post the first time around! Your first suspicion is something I've been considering and I think you have a great mind. And you know what they say about great minds, if I can be put in any class that's somewhere in the same school as you.
Actually, what I was thinking was, that in the frame straightening process, with the frame bent in the area of the common bracket assembly, perhaps the body shop could not completely straighten that area. A slight bend or bump in the frame rail could throw off the common bracket attachment, even though the shaft seats well on the frame.
I have already considered what you called "the easy or lazy way out", in enlarging the holes. I have read many of your posts, Drew, and consider you to to be an expert. So, if an expert suggests an easy or lazy way out, and I'm a novice, then isn't that easy or lazy way out a prudent maneuver?
Just for poops and giggles Drew, what would be the difficult and hardworking way out? Attempt to have the area aligned or straightened?
