Maintaining our old trucks is an ongoing process. Afterall, your '56 is over 55 years old. Even when they were new they needed more maintenance than a modern vehicle and the maximum life expectancy of an engine was usually under 100k miles. If you just wanted to drive from Virginia to Massachusetts I would think you would just take a modern vehicle. So, I suspect that you are looking for more than just a drive, you are wanting an adventure! I say go for it! I don't think you'll be sorry, even if you have to fix something along the way. It's just part of the whole experience. Prepare for it as best you can and enjoy the ride!
