Whats the biggest 12 volt Chevy generator, (amps that is) that can be readily bolted into an Advance Design truck?
I know that the stock 6 volt A-D generators were about 40 amps; and regulated at about 36 amps. And regarding pulley size, the drive ratio of engine RPM to generator spin was 1.83 (2400rpm generator to 1300rpm engine). {I mention this cause the ol'tractor restoration guys warned me about swappin' generators with different pulley sizes, seems it really screws up the cut-in-out voltages!}
But I was just pondering a switch to 12 volt and thought I remembered a rumor that some late 1950's early 60's BIG Task Force etc Chevy trucks (2 ton plus)MAY have approached 50+ amps?
If there is a 50+ amp Chevy generator, and If anybody knows the specific model please let me know so I can price it out.
Finally, I know the alternator swap is the most efficent way to go, but I was just wondering/diddling about big old generators.
