Just finished a complete rewire of my 53. The PO had attempted to convert it to 12V but basically nothing worked except ignition. I have a 5-wire connection from the alternator (early 60's?) to the regulator and when I hooked up the new wiring harness, I left the four wires from the alt to the reg alone. I connected the big red wire to the output? term on the alt and cut off the 2 wire plug from the new harness. I connected the remaining wire to the fifth wire on the regulator and fired her up. Everything seems to work fine, except now I have a fairly loud humming noise in the alt. Maybe that's normal when it's actually working 'cause I don't think it did before. I checked the voltage at the output of the alt and it looks to be about 14V. Is this OK? Or is it too high. All the new guages work now and the Ammeter gage shows charge when running and discharge when lights are on w/ engine off.

If you think you can or if you think you can't, either way you're right.
