Radio Shack (archer) use to sell 6v to 12 v Inverter's at one point, that would put out 5a at 12v enought power to work a standard radio. Problem was they will only convert 6v -ground. keep you eyes open at a flea market or on e-bay, found one at sally ann one day for $3 working.
