Yes, and that's why the heavier gauge wiring (and windings in the starter and generator), for the amps.
Six volt batteries don't live as long as twelve volt models do (IMHO). Had my generator "re-wound" for 12 volts and a new regulator, bulbs and battery. Even when the battery is half dead, it will still start easily..............also got rid of the positive ground that GMC was so fond of.............you just have to switch the wires on the ammeter so it will read correctly and put a resistor in the hot wire to the gas guage so it won't burn up smile .
