Welcome David, very cool that you have a truck originally purchased new in your family. It's highly unlikely that you have a 235, whoever told you that either replaced it or is simply mistaken. Either post a pic or your engine numbers.
I too, came to this site for assistance and with a lot of help, got my truck back into good working order.
