Any possibility the gasket is leaking?
Not sure about the brand of fuel pump you have. Looks exactly like the one that was on my '54 when I bought the truck.
The '29-'54 MPC defines the fuel pump as Group #3.900, Part #5592627, "(angle outlet) (AC-9798 or AC-9832)" The Factory Assembly Manual shows part number #1539832.
Later model AC-9798 pumps were metal top pumps like yours. Don't know if they were originally glass bowl top like the one shown in the Factory Assembly Manual. Also don't know if AC-9832 was glass or metal top. The pump was changed to a metal top in 1955.
The in and out fuel line ports on the pump are angled 20deg to the block, as are yours. The ports were first angled in 1952.
My metal top pump was working fine, but I wanted a glass bowl fuel pump. So I bolted the top and bowl from a reproduction glass bowl pump onto the base of my metal top pump. Works perfectly. The glass bowl pump had the wrong in/out ports and did not work on my engine. After I screwed it onto the metal-top base, the in/out ports were angled the correct 20deg.
