GM sold a 20-deg fitting to allow the newer pump to be used on older trucks that had the in/out ports parallel to the block.

Don't know if there were internal changes. A local shop installed the reproduction (parallel port) pump on my '54 235. They told me that it didn't work. I don't know if it was a defective pump, defective installation, or the wrong pump.

I bought the pump from the old Chevy Duty (now Classic Parts) in 1999. Didn't put it on until 2011. Chevy Duty item #82-232, "Glass Bowl Type Fuel Pump 47-54" $34.95. The in/out ports were parallel to the block. As I noted, the ports were angled 20 deg to the block after I attached the glass bowl top to the old metal-top pump.

I checked the Classic Parts site. Glass bowl pump #82-232 that was listed for 47-54 in 1999 is now listed for 37-51 $64.95. Classic Parts pump #82-212 is listed for 52-57, $54.95. It has a metal top.
