That's very funny... towed it home last weekend... actually I've been under it ever since and it still doesn't run!

I replaced the coil after reading a post about a bad one that sounded strangely familiar, but the wiring was so bad and the resistor needed to be bypassed so I decided to rewire the ignition system. Ran all new 1 ga grounds with soldered connections and dielectric... used 10 ga wire throughout, also soldered and dielectric... finally, last night I hooked up the battery to just bump the engine without the distributor... turned key, no bump... turned off... pulled battery cable... whiff of smoke coming from generator... at that point I wanted to release the parking brake and lay down in front of the wheels.

Obviously with all the changes the PO made, the wiring diagram is not accuate. I removed all the wiring under the hood and dash... and managed to screw up the temp gauge tube getting the gauge cluster out. Since I now cannot seem to find a simple igition diagram that covers my setup to study- 12v, generator, regulator, internal resistor coil, key start- I will list what I know, and would appreciate any help.

Ground from Neg Bat terminal to engine block
Ground from engine block to frame
1 ga from Pos Bat terminal to middle post on starter
10 ga from F on generator to Fld on regulator
10 ga from A on generator to Arm on regulator
10 ga from Bat on regulator to Amp meter
10 ga from Amp meter to Bat on ignition switch
10 ga from Bat on ignition switch to middle post on Starter
10 ga from Ign on ignition switch to S on starter
10 ga from Sol on ignition switch to + on coil
10 ga from - on coil to stud on distributor

I know I've screwed this up big time. It ran beautifully for a week... then I started to "fix" it and now it won't even turn on. Knowing my luck it probably was just out of gas to begin with. I'm about to part this out, which will be a great deal figuring just about everything is new now. Lost interest... no. Lost my mind... definitely.
