I always used to tie into the cigarette lighter wire since it is always hot. That way I didn't have to have the ignition on to play the radio. I put an in-line fuse for the radio between the radio and the cigarette lighter wire. Never blew a fuse and never had any problem doing this. Others might not think it's a good idea though.
