Put a 350 v-8 in it. This era of trucks were designed for v-8. They are plentiful & low priced. They run smooth & quite & will pull anything you put behind it. I'm getting ready to put one in my 56 with 3 2 barrel carbs on it.
I use a S-10 5 speed but if you are going to work it hard or dog it that trans. will not hold up.
