Jerry - You're right again!
I did not run the horn though my ammeter because I read somewhere (dunno where) that the high current draw could damage the ammeter.
The '54 wiring diagram has the battery terminal of the horn relay connected to the battery terminal of the voltage regulator. It goes though the ammeter. I guess my hook up is not correct.
