I prefer gas myself. I used a Hobart 140 with the flux core, and it seemed to do a pretty good job. In the past, I've used a Lincoln with flux core and wasn't that impressed at all. With flux the big thing is having good, clean material to work with. Having good quality wire and a good machine helps too.
