Just a word of caution, guys, from a old dirt track car builder. NEVER, EVER, TRUST A WELD ON A STEERING SHAFT! If you're going to install a rag joint or some other type of flexible coupling or universal joint, make sure there's some kind of positive drive on both the upper and lower shaft, a Woodruff key, a spline, a double-D coupling, or at least a cross-drilled shaft with a roll pin, etc. Betting your life on anybody's welding job is a really foolish choice!

YUP you got that right.
Found a weld on my 52 steering shaft, looked like a glob of chewing gum. Entire column was yanked and a new Flaming River one installed.
